Daily entry checks are one of the simplest ways to keep an ESD protected area under control. They confirm that the person entering the area is properly grounded before touching sensitive components or assemblies.
What should be checked
For seated work, check the wrist strap. For standing and mobile work, check ESD footwear. In many production areas, both are needed because an operator may move around the line and then sit at a bench. Testing should happen before work begins, after lunch breaks if required, and whenever a grounding item is replaced.
Why pass and fail limits matter
Grounding must be effective, but it must also be electrically safe for the wearer. A tester checks whether the resistance is within the acceptable operating range. A failed low reading may indicate a safety concern, while a failed high reading may mean the charge cannot dissipate properly.
Use the right tester at the entry point
Marvel Products’ Wrist Strap and Footwear Tester is designed to check wrist straps and footwear under actual use conditions. For a wider selection, review ESD Instruments.
Record and act
Keep a simple log of date, operator, result, and corrective action. Do not allow a failed operator into the area until the cause is found. Common corrections include replacing a wrist cord, cleaning footwear, checking the floor, or changing damaged grounding items.
Daily testing works because it is close to the risk. It catches problems before the operator reaches the product.
