Field service engineers often handle sensitive boards outside the controlled factory environment. They may work at customer sites, in repair rooms, on laboratory benches, or beside installed equipment. Why field repair is risky
Unlike a production EPA, a customer site may have ordinary tables, plastic chairs, dry air, carpets, non-ESD packaging, and no tested grounding point. A board removed from equipment may be exposed to static during diagnosis, programming, connector cleaning, or replacement.

Failed boards and spare boards should not travel in ordinary plastic or paper envelopes. Use suitable Antistatic Packaging and, where required, shielding bags for transport back to the repair center.
Train service engineers to set up the kit before opening equipment, not after the board is already on the table. Portable ESD control is most effective when it becomes the first step in the service procedure.
